5 Facts about Frizzy hair

Introduction

Frizzy hair is the irregular textured hair stranding fuzzily on the surface of your hair. They are generally caused due to the lack of moisture in your hair. Dry, curly or wavy hair are usually prone to frizziness. Frizz can be quite the trouble when it comes to the health of your hair and styling. It is caused due to multiple reasons like genetics, hair damage, water quality, climate and others. Here are a few facts about frizzy hair and a few ways to combat it.

5 facts you need to know about Frizzy hair

#1. Naturally Frizzy Hair

People are usually of the misconception that frizz is caused only due to other external factors but that might not always be true. Frizzy Hair can occur naturally for some of us. If you genetically have curly, wavy or dry hair you are more likely to have to deal with frizz in comparison to others with straight and oily scalp.

#2. Over washing and hot water bath

As mentioned in many of the previous blogs, hot water baths can only cause damage to the hair. Hot water has the tendency to easily dry your scalp, as a result causing the hair to get frizzy. It is important to retain the natural oil of the scalp and washing your hair too often can cause your hair to get dry and frizzy.

#3. Sometimes it the climate

If you live in a place where the climate is humid, you will notice that your hair gets more frizzy. It is usually so when humidity in the air is more than the moisture in your hair. The humidity in the air goes into your hair rearranging the bond of the fiber turning it frizzy.

#4. Your water can be a major problem for frizzy hair

The least foreseen cause for frizzy hair is the water. The quality of your water may trigger dryness and frizz. High content of calcium and magnesium make up the hardness of your water. Hard-water causes dryness, itchy scalp, frizz and breakage. It’s always safer to get your water checked for hardness.

 #5. Harsh hair products

Excessive use of heat on your hair causes dryness. Hair styling products like dryers, straightener, setting sprays and curling irons can cause frizziness too. Harsh products and chemicals are never pleasant for the overall health of your hair and not just for frizz alone.

How to combat Frizz

  • Do not wash your hair with hot water

First and foremost is to consciously avoid hot water baths. Hot water is not just bad for the hair but also for the skin.

  • Avoid using heat styling tools on your hair

Styling using heat once in a while is inevitable but should not be used over a prolonged period of time.

  • Use hair masks

Hair masks work exceptionally well for frizz. Deep conditioning once at least oce or twice a week can make a lot of difference.

  • Filter hard-water

There are Shower and Tap filters that help you condition hard-water and are quite cost effective too. Upgrade your shower and taps with filters for better results.

Check number of hair wash per week

Over washing your hair especially for oily scalps is a mode of convenience but it strips your scalp of all the natural oil. Make it a point to not wash your hair too often.

Conclusion

Frizzy hair can be annoying and usually comes in the way of styling. Often leaves your hair looking unhealthy and dull. Before you get to its remedies you should understand what may have caused it in the first place. You can begin by checking your hair grooming habits, the quality of your water and also if it’s genetic.
